Announcing Specialized HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps for Haiti

Wednesday, 05 May 2010 10:55
We have been contacted during the past 4 months by many individuals who have expressed interest in volunteering in Haiti. Restrictions on volunteering to date have been due to lack of housing, food, security, and basic supplies for the Haitian people and all available resources have been devoted to meeting their needs. Also we have not wanted to take jobs that are desperately needed as there are 140 disciples who are out of work. However, we are pleased to announce that our work in Haiti has now reached the stage where we can invite volunteers with select professional and language skills and experience to work with HOPE worldwide Haiti this summer.

The living conditions in Haiti remain quite harsh and volunteers will need to be prepared so that they can make a contribution, rather than create extra needs. Thus, we are seeking applicants with the underlying qualifications of having had Third World experience and preferably having a basic understanding of French or Creole.

We are looking for volunteers for Haiti this Summer who meet the basic language and experience qualifications described above and who have special training and skills in the following areas:

  1. Medical and health-related skills
  2. Psychology, social work, or counseling skills
  3. Construction or building skills
  4. Teaching, computer, or educational skills

If you apply and are selected, you will live on-site in tents with limited access to toilets, showers, kitchens and other amenities. Please see the HOPE worldwide website for more details, precautions, dos and don’ts, FAQs, and travel details for this volunteer opportunity in Haiti. Suffice it to say, you must generally be prepared to be financially self-supported and physically self-sustained during your stay. There will also be limited communication with the U.S. and limited access to medical care during the Volunteer Corps in Haiti.

We have initially selected three 7-day sessions this Summer:

Session 1: June 12 - 19
Session 2: July 10 - 17
Session 3: August 2 - 9

As needed, additional volunteer sessions may be scheduled.

In the meantime, there continue to be exciting volunteer opportunities of a more general nature through the HOPE Youth Corps and HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps schedule of activities for 2010. There are still openings available in volunteer programs in the U.S., U.K and the Bahamas. A special Volunteer Corps for singles has been planned for Manila, Philippines in August immediately before the International Singles Conference. Please click here to see the HOPE worldwide website for information on these exciting opportunities this summer.
